Ibiza in winter - the truth and myth

Ibiza - the party capital of world. The island that wakes up at night and parties all night long. With world's largest Club to world's no. 1 DJ - you expect this to be 30 days x 12 months carnival. Well no! Ibiza officially closes in from October to April - and its 400k population comes down to 150k!

We made the mistake of assuming the island will be normal in mid March - the weather's nice and warm. We were welcomed by a haunted town with restaurants, supermarkets and even ATM's closed. While there are many articles on "things to do in Ibiza in winter" - there is very little to do. Having said that, this the best time to explore the true island. If you are not a crazy part seeker, then March / April is the time to see the rustic local culture of the island. Its best to be here still on a weekend as some places like Pasha club are open. For 2 days, here is what our experience was.

The first day we went to the Bossa Beach and where thousands throng it was literally not more than 5 people. The surrounding pubs like Bora Bora had eerie silence. In the evening we headed towards the city centre. There were a few restaurants open for dinner and the ambiance was quite good!

Next day we visited the Dalt villa. Wandering through its narrow lanes and white washed houses was a beautiful experience. The views from the top are spectacular and you can easily spend 2-3 hours here. Not being the peak season, the crowd was limited and peaceful. It was definitely one of the highlights of our Spain trip.

In the evening we headed towards San Antonio to view the famed sunset. Again, like the Bossa beach, where thousands swam the promenade to view the sunset, we were not more than hundred. Offcourse the beach pubs like Cafe Del Mar, Cafe Mambo and others were closed. The bars near the San Antonio were open and provided a good evening dinner.

ATM only open for Peak Season
While we did not rent a car, it is highly recommended to do so in this season. You can visit many more hidden jems which are not accessible by bus around the southern tip of the island.

To summarize, go with the right expectations and you will not be disappointed by the quietened party Ibiza.
